Become an RN Preceptor with Sura College

Support a Nurse. Strengthen the Profession. Shape the Future.

Sura College is seeking qualified clinical sites and RN preceptors to help guide nurses re-entering the workforce through our Arizona Board of Nursing–approved RN Refresher Program. Our program combines online didactic content with a 135-hour supervised clinical preceptorship, designed to help nurses refresh their skills and regain clinical confidence.

🔹 What We Need from the RN Preceptor

Preceptors serve as a vital mentor and guide for the RN Refresher student (preceptee). We ask that you:

  • Supervise one RN Refresher student for 135 hours over the course of their clinical experience
  • Provide hands-on clinical learning opportunities appropriate to your setting
  • Orient the student to your unit or department and help them integrate into daily workflows
  • Offer constructive feedback on performance, safety, professionalism, and communication
  • Collaborate with Sura College faculty on student evaluations and progress checkpoints
  • Be willing to engage in brief email check-ins with faculty at:
    • Start of the preceptorship
    • Midpoint (~66 hours)
    • Final evaluation (135 hours)
  • Review and sign evaluation forms, preceptorship agreement, and hour verification form

🏫 What Sura College Will Provide

As the academic institution, Sura College will:

  • Assign each student a faculty member who will maintain communication with both the student and preceptor
  • Provide a complete preceptorship packet with clear expectations and evaluation tools
  • Ensure the student meets all health and safety requirements (including immunizations, CPR certification, and fingerprint clearance)
  • Assist with onboarding and orientation to your clinical site, if needed
  • Maintain faculty oversight per Arizona regulations, with a 1:10 faculty-to-student ratio
  • Be available for consultation and issue resolution throughout the preceptorship

👩‍⚕️ What the RN Refresher (Preceptee) Will Do

Our students are committed to refreshing their knowledge and safely returning to practice. Each student will:

  • Submit their preceptorship schedule for faculty approval prior to beginning
  • Define personal learning objectives for the clinical experience
  • Show progression from observation to independent performance of nursing care
  • Complete all assigned coursework, theory, case studies, and labs online before preceptorship
  • Notify faculty immediately of any absences, incidents, or clinical concerns
  • Maintain open communication with both their preceptor and Sura faculty

🌟 Build Your Talent Pipeline

Partnering with Sura College is more than just precepting—it’s an opportunity to identify and train potential future staff. Many of our RN Refresher students are looking for long-term employment after completing the program. By mentoring a student onsite, your team gets a firsthand look at their clinical skills, professionalism, and fit with your facility.
If you have open RN positions or anticipate future hiring needs, this program can be a valuable tool for recruitment and retention.
